Two awards for lighting!

Friday, November 13th, 2009 By James Leave a Comment

Congratulations to Daniella Beattie, winner of this year’s TMA Theatre Award for Best Lighting Design for The Wicked Lady at the New Victoria, Newcastle Under Lyme. Congratulations also to James Farncombe and Tim Mitchell, the other lighting nominees, and all of the other nominees and winners, a full list of which is available at http://www.tmauk.org/theatrecategories.aspx. Presented by the Theatrical Management Association, the annual TMA Awards recognise work being produced in the regional theatres around the country; the Lighting category is sponsored by the Association of Lighting Designers.

At the same time, White Light and whatsonstage.com have announced that nominations are now open for the 2010 What’s On Stage Theatregoers’ Choice Awards; as in 2009, the Best Lighting Designer category is being sponsored by White Light.

Covering principally shows running in London’s West End, anyone can nominate a person or production in any category for professional productions which opened in London between 1st December 2008 and 30th November 2009. Nominations can be made at the whatsonstage.com website until the end of November, with the final short-list being announced on December 4th. The winners are then decided by public vote – with over 35,000 people voting in 2008/9 – before the awards are presented on February 14th.

“We are delighted to continue our support of the What’s On Stage Awards,” comments White Light’s Managing Director, Bryan Raven. “Having a category for Best Lighting in both these and the TMA awards recognises the importance of lighting to theatrical productions – and gives some well-deserved public recognition to the many talented lighting designers who we are lucky enough to work with on so many shows.”

You can nominate your favourite lighting design – as well as your choices for all of the other categories – now at http://awards.whatsonstage.com, returning to vote for the nominated choices from early December.
